An Oyster Dinner Party

December 11, 2011

We asked the Taste team for their best holiday party ideas, allowing them five items from the shop on us.

"I'd throw an oyster-themed dinner party for however many people could fit around my dinner table and we'd drink bubbly all night long. First: fried oysters with fish sauce and fresh chiles, and Pok Pok-inspired Champagne cocktails. At the table, several dozen raw oysters with some homemade condiments like fresh yuzu jelly, mignonette, homemade kimchee puree, and shiro soyu with pepper. Then grilled oysters with shiso butter, chile and a sprinkling of butter-fried panko with grilled bread, more butter, and some homemade pickles. Finally, fried oyster sandwiches with togarashi mayo and a warm vegetable salad. By the time we reach dessert I'd plan to be a bit drunk, but not too drunk to slice a raspberry-lemongrass-peach tart from Bien Cuit and put on the kettle for a pot of tea. I've always wanted to be the kind of hostess who sends guests home with a lovely little box of macarons and a handwritten note, telling them how much I love them." - Tejal Rao
