The Perfect Fall Cocktail Recipe: Brandy, Apple, Maple and Beer

Get cozy with the Sidewalker from Brooklyn's Prime Meats

by The Gilt Taste Kitchen September 27, 2011

With a sparkling, golden body of German wheat beer, tweaked with apple cider vinegar and apple brandy, the Sidewalker is as cool and crisp as an early fall evening. We love it as a quirky aperitif with a dozen cold oysters, sitting outside as the sun goes down (earlier and earlier, we know). Try it at home with the beer you have on hand—but stay away from those hops-forward brews. Or better yet, let its maker, Damon Boelte, mix you a tall one this Tuesday.

The Sidewalker
Adapted from Damon Boelte, Prime Meats
Makes 1 cocktail

1 ounce apple brandy (such as Laird's)
¾ ounce lemon juice
½ ounce maple syrup
¼ ounce apple cider vinegar
Cold wheat beer (such as Hefeweizen or Weihenstephaner hefeweissbier)
Lemon wedge, to garnish

Pour the brandy, lemon juice, maple syrup and vinegar into a cocktail shaker. Add ice and shake. Strain the cocktail into a chilled, tall glass and top with beer. Garnish with a lemon wedge.

The Gilt Taste Kitchen

The Gilt Taste Kitchen would be called The Kitchen at Gilt Taste, but that would sound too much like the name of a store in a fancy shopping mall.
