Shipped frozen, and baked in about five minutes, they’re crisp, with just the right chew. A natural for Hanukkah, these bite-size gems are also savory appetizers for any time of year: a savvy platform for guacamole, spicy tuna, or a dollop of crème fraîche with caviar.

We Say Potato

At Hanukkah, latkes join donuts and other foods cooked in oil to commemorate the eight days in 168 B.C. when, after a battle to liberate Jerusalem, the menorah in the temple there burned on but one day’s worth of oil. The Miracle of the Oil may have spawned the birth of what many consider the ultimate expression of the potato, but, like Linda Hausberg, we believe the latke should show up a lot more often. So we top these bite-size pancakes with traditional sour cream and applesauce, then mix it up with salsa or chutney, and then maybe some smoked salmon and capers. Not since the cracker itself has an appetizer been quite so versatile.

Use and Care

  • These products will be shipped frozen, but may arrive slightly thawed; this is normal
  • Freeze upon arrival
  • The latkes will remain fresh for up to 1 year frozen
  • To cook, preheat oven to 450° and cook frozen latkes (do not defrost) on a rack or cookie sheet for 5-7 minutes
  • Do not microwave the latkes
