Byrd Cookie Company has been a Savannah tradition since 1924. It began when Ben T. Byrd, Sr. started making cookies by hand, packing them in wooden boxes and delivering them to Savannah stores. Today the company is known for its tiny crunchy cookies and Southern specialties like cheddar biscuits.

Going Dutch
“When you start with better ingredients, you get better cookies,” affirms Byrd’s Cookie Company’s communications expert Natalie Butler. That includes Dutch cocoa for all the bakery’s chocolate-based confections. Developed in the early 1800s by Amsterdam chocolatier Coenraad Johannes van Houten, “Dutched” cocoa has a smoother, milder flavor than the bittersweet Broma-processed cocoa, making it a natural in crowd-pleasing cookies like Byrd’s chocolate-mint, triple-chocolate and classic chocolate chip.
