Form and Function

Before it closed in the summer of 2011, the kitchen at Ferran Adrià’s El Bulli required a staff of 60 to prepare the elaborate 20-to-30-course tasting menus that placed the restaurant atop the bucket lists of food nerds around the globe. FACES, Adrià’s line of beautiful but functional dining and kitchenware, takes the same collaborative approach, employing the skill and vision of different designers for each of the three collections. The El Bulli Collection showcases the work of Swiss industrial designer Luki Huber, who’s been crafting witty utensils for the restaurant since 2003. Xavier Claramunt and Miguel de Mas were in architecture and interior design, respectively, before founding ClaramuntDeMas Industrial and developing the nimble Frankie Flatware for FACES. Trays and Bowls, the third collection, features serving-ware from designers Martin Ruiz Azua and Gerard Moline.
