If you love the wines of St. Helena in Napa, and want the opportunity to try small-production wineries, then the Barbour Cabernet fits your profile. Crafted by critically-acclaimed winemaker Heidi Barrett (of Screaming Eagle and Dalla Valle fame), and the sole focus of father/daughter proprietors, this robust wine would be a unique match to antelope rib racks below, a curve ball your dinner guests would never see coming.

Varietals: 97% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc
Nose: Dark plum, black currant, plum, raspberry, spicy caramel and a hint of floral
Palate: It follows through on the palate with a touch of cassis and brown earth, and nuances of oak
Alcohol: 14.8%
Appellation: St. Helena, Napa Valley, California

We Love This With

St. Helena Cabernets are classically full-bodied as a result of the endless sunny days in the valley. However, the Barbour bottling is unique since the winemaker threw in a touch of Cab Franc to balance the ripe flavors of the Cab Sauv. The gamey meat and beefy finish of a roasted rack of antelope ribs not only enhances the bottle, but it would certainly surprise your dinner guests. Just throw them on the grill or roast as you would a rack of lamb.
