Sarabeth’s Kitchen is a classic mom-and pop success story. Sarabeth and Bill Levine started small and gained a rabid local following. People would stand in long lines waiting for Sarabeth’s handmade pastries and preserves. The couple’s attention to detail and natural ingredients has not changed since they opened in 1981, and these days their legions of fans include four children and twelve grandchildren. New Yorkers still love them, and out-of-towners stuff their bags with their famous fruit spreads, cookies and cakes. We love this lemon cake for its lightness and sweet-tart flavor.
