It may be called simple syrup, but the name belies the intricate craftsmanship that goes into creating each bottle of Royal Rose. Husband-and-wife team Emily Butters and Forrest Butler prepare their handmade syrups with meticulously sourced spices and certified-organic, fair-trade ingredients to make well-balanced, simply dazzling mixers.

Thankfully, Royal Rose has. A dram of its cardamom-clove simple syrup may prove eye-opening. With the round, sweet flavor of pineapple juice (and, ok, a bit of vodka, if you like) the spicy syrup adds the headiness of camphor and eucalyptus, with a bit of citrus. With rum, lemon juice, and a lime wedge (a drink Forrest Butler has dubbed the World’s End, after the breathtaking peak in Sri Lanka), it sings. And with their Ayurvedic properties of warmth, cardamom and cloves are also a classic digestive soother. That calls for a nightcap.
