A love for animals brought Barbara Kobren, Deb Mehne and Sue Spiegel together. After throwing around fundraising ideas for their local SPCA chapter in Westchester, New York, the trio serendipitously stumbled upon Barbara’s family nut recipe. With some tweaks, the three turned this delicious mix into a full-fledged business in 2008, which raises money for animal shelters.

Why We Love It

Barbara Kobren, one of the founders of bobbysue’s nuts!, still remembers her Aunt Freda’s famous nut recipe, an array of almonds, pecans and cashews slow-roasted in her oven to crunchy, salty-sweet perfection. One taste of these nuts brings Barbara back home, “it’s a sensory memory,” she says. These days, Barbara continues her aunt’s legacy in Westchester, New York, roasting the nuts in an oven for about an hour and turning each batch by hand.
