No ordinary jelly, these jams from Campania are fruit-forward spreads that lack the cloying flavor of most fruit preserves. Using recipes passed down through generations, Francesco Vastola creates his jams using large pieces of whole fruit and very little sugar. Everything is grown on his farm including the Dottato, a special variety of white figs granted DOP status, an Italian designation ensuring authenticity.

Why We Love It

Most of the fruits and vegetables Francesco Vastola grows on his Campania farm are unique to the region near the Cilento National Park. Many are protected under DOP (Denaminazione di Origine Protetta) status. Literally translated, this “protected designation of origin” is a badge of authenticity, ensuring products are grown in a specific area using a set of standards. Although jam with toast is the traditional European breakfast, this series inspires classic cheese pairings: The white fig jam works wonderfully with harder cheeses, try the pear and walnut with creamy cheese and spread the concord grape jelly on chunks of aged cheese.
