Why to buy: Any lover of great Italian food and wine knows the Nebbiolo grape in its most famous incarnation (Barolo). This 100% Nebbiolo wine from the Langhe appellation—redolent of nutmeg and tobacco, rose and tamarind—is wonderful with duck, pork or chicken. It is a simply fantastic food wine.

Characteristics: Intensely fragrant, with a garnet-red hue, the bouquet of this wine brims with dried leaves, plum, citrus and flowers. It features wonderfully velvety tannins and a round balsamic flavor on the palate.
