Why to buy: Here’s are two stunning wines from Antinori, Italy's most legendary vintner: the elegant white wine "Cervaro" and the famed "Pian delle Vigna" Brunello. Cervaro is made primarily from Chardonnay grapes. It is modestly oaked and boasts a light fruitiness, begging for a scallop or shrimp antipasto. The Pian delle Vigna is “one of the best Brunelli I have ever tasted from Antinori,” according to Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, who awarded it 93 points. Its nuanced notes of tobacco, licorice, spice and leather are fit for a roast pork entrée.

Characteristics: Pian delle Vigna Brunello di Montalcino is a very intense ruby red in the glass, with a bouquet of red fruit, tobacco, spice and chocolate. On the palate, it is full and satisfying, with a long finish. The Cervaro from the Castello della Sala Antinori estate has a cooler microclimate better suited to white wines: It is straw yellow, with golden tinges, and a fruity aroma. Hints of vanilla and toast meet a touch of minerality—just enough to balance the fruitiness and keep this wine wonderfully elegant. Drink both over an elegant evening this holiday season, or if you have the patience, cellar them and you will be rewarded - the Brunello will achieve even more robustness between 2015 and 2022, and Cervaro can be drunk through 2019.
