Nose, palate and pairing: Ruby red to garnet with aromas of cherries, tobacco, leather and spice. On the palate, it’s rich, but not heavy, and has notes of ripe black fruit, minerals and earth. Drink this wine with roasted game and cured meats.
The backstory: Distinctive notes of mineral and earth begin in terracotta amphorae, in which the winemakers allowed this Nero d’Avola juice to age for 12 to 18 months before bottling it. By choosing to age their wines in these ancient winemaking vessels, the winemakers express their unconventional spirit and dogged commitment to crafting authentic Sicilian wines.
