Why to buy: Since the bottle sports an American flag and this wine is great with anything grilled, we’re calling this luscious, fruity red the perfect pour for Labor Day. From a collaboration founded in 2008 between Charles Smith (Food & Wine Magazine’s 2009 Winemaker of the Year) and Charles Bieler (wine innovator, NY hipster and explorer) this cabernet and syrah blend is both easy-to-drink and easy-on-the-wallet.
Where we discovered it: When we tried this bottle in the backyard of our favorite new Brooklyn restaurant Lavender Lake, we knew we were onto something: juicy grass-fed burgers, a well-made bold red wine, sunshine, and the summer. It's the perfect wine for our favorite All-American past-time: grillin’ and chillin’.
Nose, palate and pairing: Fruit forward, but not too jammy, this wine has balanced tannins and a touch of pepper from the Syrah. Our favorites pairings are classic Americana: burgers with blue cheese, juicy steaks, and corn on the cob hot off the grill.
