Nose, palate and pairing: Straw yellow in color, the Pecorino Villa Angela, made from the Pecorino grape, is rich and aromatic, featuring notes of tropical fruit, orange peel, acacia and jasmine on the nose and the palate. It can be paired with a simple pasta tossed with butter, fresh lemon and pecorino cheese or pesce crudo clams, mussels—basically anything from the sea!
Il Brecciarolo, a red blend, combines two of classic grapes—the aromatic Sangiovese and the hearty Montepulciano—with the austere, rocky soils of Marche. The resulting wine is a dark, seductive blend of black fruit, leather and spice elevated by clean minerality and acidity. Pair with roasted or smoked red meats—it’s our go-to wine for ribs.
Backstory:The Marche region is one of the most exciting wine regions in Italy, and also one of it’s most unknown here in America. It is due east of Tuscany and shares the same mountain range and has a long coastline that provides an incredible array of delicious seafood. This combination of fertile land with mountain and coastal influence make it perfect for growing grapes. Velenosi along with winemaker Attilio Pagli are Marche all-stars, known for crafting some of the best wines—and best values—in Italy.

With a charismatic proprietor (Angela Velenosi), a talented winemaker (Attilo Pagli) and some of the best soil and climate conditions in the Marche, this estate continues to draw attention for producing some of the finest wines in Italy, including their Rosso Piceno Superiore and a Bordeaux-style blend.

We Love This With
Round and refined, this Marche red deserves a princely cut of meat. Pasture-raised, Mishima Ranch’s rib roast has the pedigree we’re looking for. With tremendous flavor and intense marbling, this is meat that melts in your mouth—especially in the company of the velvety Il Brecciarolo. Prep the roast by rubbing it with herbs, garlic and oil and allowing it to sit for a day. While you’re decanting the wine, sear the roast on all sides to seal in its flavors, and roast until dinner.
