Our favorite treat from this artisanal treasure trove is the sweet polenta pound cake that reminds us of a lighter version of American cornbread. It's delightful for breakfast, slathered with butter and jam, but we also like it served as a dessert, drizzled with honey and candied pecans. What a treasure!

An apprenticeship with pastry chefs in Milan and Turin brought Gary Rulli back to his hometown of San Francisco with his heart set on creating a true Northern Italian pastry caffé. With his wife Jeannie, Gary opened Emporio Rulli in 1988. Together with Turin-based chocolate master Fabrizio Galla, Gary launched Galla Rulli, a pastry line exclusive to Gilt Taste.

Since he opened his flagship shop in 1988, Chef Rulli has garnered loyal following by delivering homemade, traditional Italian specialties like panettone and All Saints Day cakes.
