Nose, palate and pairing: This is a dry Riesling (Trocken means dry). With apples and yeast on the nose and palate that goes from slightly sweet to wet slate and apples, this Riesling is dynamite with fresh herbs like tarragon.
Traditional and complex, the Grüner Veltliner smells of spice and grapefruit with a slightly peppery palate. It's got great balance and acidity.
Backstory: The “Stock & Stein,” which translates to “stick over stone,” and describes the chunks of slate in the soil at the vineyard, is crafted by a husband and wife team that farms over 50 teeny parcels of land according to the strict standards of biodynamic farming. They make wines naturally—with organic fruit, without filtration, using natural yeasts and limited sulfur.
The Leth family is known for its efforts to sustain indigenous varieties to Austria’s Wagram region and even started Austria’s first living grape variety museum which showcases ancient grapes, many of which had nearly died out or never been cultivated. With soils well suited for Grüner Veltliner, half of the region is planted with this expressive grape.

We Love This With
Rieslings are famously good with food- fish, pork, Asian dishes, you name it- thanks to concentrated flavors of fruit and a racing acidity that slices through fat and allows them to age. Try the Gruner Veltliner, loaded with green apples and white, peppery spices, with anything fresh, like salads, oysters, and shellfish. A staple at Craft Steak, Tom Collichio’s restaurant in Vegas, these Royal Blue Prawns are tender and sweet. Throw them on a grill with a burst of butter and lemon and you’ve got a perfect match for high-toned Rieslings and Gruners, not to mention dinner.
